How to Choose Your Builder

The first step of any extension process is choosing the right builder.

Here’s just a few of our tips:

  1. Word of mouth is always the best recommendation, but don’t stop there. Do your own research.
  2. With the internet, it’s easy to check out builders in your area. Read plenty of reviews and look for a proven track record!
  3. Maybe you have contacts in the building trade? Try getting in touch with them!

Don’t cut corners. Do your research first, take your time and when you finally have a builder in mind, then take the next step in your build.

At Revolution Projects, we are experienced in all stages of the home extension process, and because of this, we’ve supplied the tips above to help you develop a positive mental attitude before you dive into your next project on the Gold Coast.

Frequently Asked Questions

The fall of land is a phrase used to describe the steepness of a block. A flat block is ideal because it is easier to build on and requires less preparation; it is most often built with a slab foundation which is known to be the easiest, fastest and most cost-effective way to build.

With that said, we can still use moderate or steep blocks to build on, but they do add to the overall cost of the building. There is more preparation required to create a solid foundation, and the steeper it gets, the more work required to prepare the space for the construction.

Generally speaking, when preparing sloping blocks, we have to excavate and create retaining walls. In some cases, when the fall of the land is too steep, we can’t use a slab and have to rely on alternative construction techniques. The steeper the block, usually the more expensive it is to build on it.

Just because you don’t have any designs or plans for your new home, doesn’t mean there aren’t ideas out there you would like. We can work with you to determine exactly what you would like from your new home. You can also work with a designer to consider different aesthetic touches or other requirements you might want to consider that would suit your lifestyle well.

We can be available to assist as you develop a plan which suits your tastes and needs perfectly. Once that’s done, we can get started on building your home. But don’t worry, we make sure to include you throughout the entire project to guide the design and ensure it’s what you want.

Homebuilding site costs encompass all of the works necessary to prepare your block for building. This includes the work which needs to be done to level the block for foundations. Other site costs cover the connection of various services such as water, electricity and gas.

In some projects, such as those which require a knock-down to rebuild, site costs associated with demolition and clearing debris also needs to be planned. In these types of projects, councils may enforce the installation of new services, so it is important to check this out before starting as it is the responsibility of the owner, not the builder.

At Revolution Projects, we build custom homes tailored to our clients’ specific wants and needs. This includes taking elements like aesthetics, exterior design and budget requirements into consideration. Due to the nature of custom work, it is practically impossible to establish a set price. We can offer guidance prices to give you a good idea of the feasibility of a project and to help guide your decisions when thinking about a custom home.

Generally speaking, there are four main components affecting the overall cost of a custom home. These factors are the biggest variables when pricing a build, so you should always consider them. They include:

  • The size of the development
  • The complexity of the building design
  • Any bespoke features you would like to implement
  • The fall of the land

With all areas of your build, from the plan to the finishing touches, being catered by the Revolution Projects team, we place a great emphasis on communication and consultancy.
Usually, we require 6-8 months to build a home, depending on the size of the project.
